Hours to read, days to ponder, weeks to contemplate and a lifetime to fully absorb.I received the book yesterday at about 5:00PM. It sat on my counter for about an hour when I decided to crack it open and peek inside. Next thing I knew, I was sucked in. I finished reading by 9:00PM and was genuinely sorry it was over. I found myself crying, laughing, and scratching my head over the antics of the characters within. And while the storyline kept me glued to the book until the last page yesterday, I find I that today I cannot stop thinking of all the different messages within. This is a book that will be with me for a very, very long time.

From the moment I ripped the mailing package open, I was unable to set the book down. It was one of those perfect Saturday mornings - coffee in hand, lounging on the couch and allowing myself to be completely absorbed within the delightfully dark story. Not only was I laughing out loud - I found myself smiling with nostalgia. I didn't realize how much I crave the days when the "scene" consumed my time and demanded creativity in that ethereal edgy way only the Goth clubs require. The author was able to uproot long forgotten memories of a time when life was black clothing, pale skin and one's internal light the only color.
Having been acquainted with Dr. Friedrich on a personal level in the distant pat, I found his novel to be an interesting act of introspection. I applaud him for his insightful self-examination(something from which we all might benefit). Well-written and wry...his novel presented riveting characters and took me back to Times of wild abandon. But, seriously Michael, no self-respecting goth wears Hot Topic. Congratulations on your success.

Never have I read a piece of "fiction" that has stirred so many real emotions. "Eidolon's Wager" is not only an accurate depiction of the Gothic/Fetish subculture, but more importantly, a painfully honest, beautifully written, journey of the soul. Told with a compassionate candor, biting sarcasm, and filled with profound insight and wisdom, this book will leave its readers laughing, crying, and reflecting on one's own life.
I COULD! NOT! PUT THIS BOOK DOWN! Not only did I fall in love with every character but found myself DEEPLY MOVED by the many undercurrents and messages this story presents. I DID NOT want it to end.

Wow...I discovered this book through happenstance on Facebook. Due to the fact that it's set locally for me and being made into a movie I bought a copy to read so I would know the story. I'm glad I did....I read it every spare minute I could, taking it out on breaks with me and on the commute to and from work. I was entranced, turned on, and horrified in some spots. It affected me in ways I wasn't expecting. It made me want to live the main character's life instead of my own.
Well written, very descriptive, it creates an image in your mind you won't soon forget. Well worth buying and sharing with friends and family.
After reading this book you will not forget it for a long long time. I can only hope the film will do it justice!
I couldnt put it down, not expecting to find the characters so layered. This book was able to hit alot of the things that set a book apart from the endless average reads I come across. I love a book that makes me feel, even tear up, laugh out loud and an ocasional turn on without sex being over done. This book was sexy, smart, and I was reminded to not judge strangers. I got a lump in my throat.The author did his homework on subcultures. I enjoyed the peeking into the mind of a shrink, with the humility this particular one showed. It was fun, local,a bit silly with the depiction of goth kids, which was cute. Sexy, the perfect amount of eroticism. The author was able to include so many layers A compasionate veiw on mental health issues, sub cultures and mis-conseptions . The Portland culture, a mixed bag of baristas, artists, misfits and wannabes. The healing, hope,friendship, pain, love, disapointments nicely written. I loved the integrity of the protagonnist, and his ability to show insights on his personal jackassery rather than judge the people in his life.This book was will not be soon forgoten.Great first novel, I would recomend it to my friends, but not my parents.)
Eidolon's Wager is a great read set against the goth/punk/conceptual art underground of the Pacific northwest. I found myself immediately engaged by the main characters -- Victor, a young psychologist trying to absorb a strange new world of goth/magickal/vampire culture and Rubin, his barista, tour guide, buddy, romantic rival, and general dark 'bon vivant' with an arch sense of humor to top it all off. There are of course beautiful, complex and troubled young girls to entrance these two guys and plenty of complications. The backdrop is an ever-changing brew of B&D clubs, vampire role-playing events, art openings, psych wards, and a well-staged denouement at the Burning Man festival. The author applies keen observations on the human condition and a solid dose of humor to keep the story flowing briskly. There is even a bit of mystery involving a deceased kabbalistic scholar and an otherworldly intrusion or two. Victor's journey and personal transformation through his different loves and friendships kept me glued to the pages - the book gathers momentum and doesn't let up until the finish!
